Penguins on carnival

You will be wondering what penguins have to do with carnival? A simple explanation can be given.
While penguins are so popular, several carnival groups have used them as theme for their wagon and costumes.
The parades took place in different places in the Netherlands on February 2004 and 2005.

The first group is "family penguin" in Roermond (NL)(2004).

They used the penguinsong for music and made a large penguin to put on their car. And of course they were dressed as penguins. You can reach the family penguin (Paul Dingjan en Tilly Limpens) by e-mail Some pictures of it:

The wagon with a large penguin on top of it. The text "femieliej Pingwin kump hering sjèlle" means: "Family penguin bites at herring", a tradition in Limburg on Ash Wednesday.

During the parade on 23 February 2004

The group "CV De Tapwachters" during the parade in Klarenbeek next to Apeldoorn (NL)(2004).

They too used the penguinsong for music and made a beautiful wagon. They won the first price in Klarenbeek with it and in Wilp they ended on the third place. They too were dressed like penguins. You can reach cv De Tapwachters by e-mail Following pictures are made that day.

"Carnaval wordt echt onwijs, met dit ijsparadijs", meaning "Carnival will be brill with this ice paradise", in Dutch it is a rhyme

A penguin behind the wheel?

The group "De Slakkebouwers" during the parade in Sluiskil next to Sas van Gent (NL)(2005).

They too used the penguinsong for music and made a beautiful wagon. They won the first price in Sluiskil with it and in Sas van Gent they ended on the sixt place. They too were dressed like penguins. Following pictures are made that day.
